Smart Grids require a rich set of technologies, protocols, APIs and, at times, proprietary technologies. For Smart Grids to work, all of these components must interoperate. Interoperability is a central factor in making Smart Grids a working reality.
NIST has the charter for establishing interoperability standards. The Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) recently published the “Report to NIST on the Smart Grid Interoperability Standards Roadmap” that describes the current status, issues and priorities in this area.
Smart Grid implementations use a wide variety of communications, web and power distribution industry standards, including:
QualityLogic is following the evolution of these standards and determining which it will develop test suites for.
